Argentina Import regulations change

Dear valued customers,
Pls be informed, that  the import procedures for Argentina have been modificated.

Now the importers must request an authorization to the Argentine Government before bringing most imports into the country.

Please find hereafter a brief resume of the published new requirement DJAI (Sworn statements previous every import).

General Resoultion 3252 – DJAI, and General Resolution 3255 (Electronic screen to enter info for the DJAI)

Scope = Import Merchandise (it does not apply for temporary imports and some other exceptions listed below)

Effective: Feb 1st, 2012. (It does not affect imports purchased prior to this date)

All Importers of record (or their custom broker on their behalf), prior to issuing a Purchase Order or similar document used to set up overseas purchases, must provide information to the treasury department - through a new electronic screen-, related to the merchandise they want to bring into Argentina.

The importer of record will submit the following info through the electronic screen in the MARIA system (Argentinean IT system similar to the AMS):

a.- Income tax nbr
b.- FOB value and currency
c.- HS code
d.- Quantity of merchandise and unit
e.- New or used
f.-Origin country
g.- Country the merchandise is coming from.

The information will be made available to other agencies (agriculture, health) so they can check if there are any other non tariff requirements to be met.
The Federal Administration will decide if that specific import is approved, (the time taken for this approval is 72hrs that can be extended up to 10 calendar days),then the Federal Government Administration shall inform the importers if approved or not and the reason. If the import has to meet a non tariff requirement, the consignee will have to go to the proper agency and comply.
When approved, a validation code is provided. That validation code will be required at the time of submitting the information to customs. Every DJAI will be valid for 180 days and this period can be extended.
